MADISON, Wis. -- Saddle up! The Midwest Horse Fair will be back at the Alliant Energy Center and Coliseum this weekend. The theme for this year's fair is 'Journey Home.'
This is the 44th edition of the fair, which will run from Friday through Sunday. Hundreds of exhibitors including 30+ breed and discipline groups are expected to be featured at the fair.
New for this year's fair will be a Liberty demonstration featuring Heartland actress Amber Marshall. There will also be chuckwagon cooking demos and a petting farm.
Some fan-favorite activities will be returning including two nights of PRCA rodeo, the Rare and Critical Breed Showcase and the Wisconsin Horse Council awards.
"It’s a joy to host and connect tens of thousands of horse lovers for the best three-day horse fair in the nation," fair executive director Teri Giannetti said. "From Pintos to Fjords to Peruvians to Palominos, we have so many breeds participating, and lots of new activities and demonstrations to share with our fairgoers."
Each year, the fair brings about 60,000 to Madison and generates about $11 million for the local economy.
General admission tickets can be bought in advance at Blain's Farm & Fleet or on the day at the gate. Children ages 7 and under get in free, and military members and veterans with a valid ID can get in for free on Sunday. There are separate tickets required for some events, like the rodeos.
